Looks like my blog will be going into a new direction. For the longest, the only thing it seemed I blogged about was infertility. I now have a new hobby and its called...RUN FOR GOD! Which has led to what appears to be a near future addiction of 5K's so, I will probably be blogging more about that now than anything.
Just a little briefing to bring everyone up to date on my running. Most people follow me on facebook so probably already know it all but the quick sum up is back in September, my church started a Discipleship training class called Run for God. It is a 12 week preparation program to prep you to your first 5K but in doing so, it is supposed to bring you closer to God with devotionals and you are running to rebuild your temple for him and as you run, to spread the word of Christ with those around you. I absolutely love what this class is doing for me. I joined the class for multiple reasons a couple of which were 1) To do just as the class is for, Run for God and become closer with him 2) get to know more people within the church better and 3) loose some of this horrendous weight in which I have gained. I am so ashamed and embarrassed to say but I had gained 93 pounds from the time me and Trent met until I started this journey. I gained this weight 1 because I was not playing softball and working out anymore but the weight didn't start drastically adding on until I was on 3 high doses of steroids to try and get rid of hives which stuck around for a little over a month and then of course, 9 rounds of fertility meds didn't help anything at all. I gained quick with those meds. Anyways, September 3rd, I have lost a total of 18 pounds so far. I am only 1 pound away from meeting my first weight loss goal. I can't believe I am fixing to announce it but my first goal was to be below 200 pounds. Below is a comparison picture from June to middle of October. I can't tell it just by looking at myself but I can definitely see the difference in clothes and in my face.
I thank God for this wonderful Run for God group and especially the leader of the group for being such a wonderful inspiration, encourager, motivator and most of all, a wonderful Godly woman in which Christ just shines right through her.
We are now on week 8 of Run for God which is to walk for 5 minute warm up, jog 20 straight minutes, walk 5 minute cool down. In the beginning, Amber asked me, "Do you really think you can run 20 minutes?" My answer was, "Do I think I can? NO! But, I am going to believe that I can!" Welp, believing in God to pull me through got me just to where I wanted to be. God knew I could all along but only with his help. I DONE IT! I have now done 3 nights of it and am tickled to death. I just keep repeating to myself during these runs "Where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord! Maker of heaven and earth." In a couple of weeks, we are supposed to run for 30 minutes and even though I am running my 20, I can't help but to have doubts about the 30 minutes. I just have to keep on believing that God will pull me through it.
The plan with the Run for God group was that we would run a 5K after we completed the training and the leaders hopes were that Mars Hill could host their first annual Mars Hill Run for God 5K. That was said on one Sunday and by the next Sunday, Praise God, everything was just falling right into place and our own 5K was already in the works and being planned. The 5K will be on November 16th. We would love to have anyone and everyone to join us. Below is the info incase anyone would like to register and do it with us.
We are Running for God to rebuild our Temple one step at a time and sharing Christ Jesus through health and fitness. With this 5K, the money made will be donated to our missions team to help those who wish to go on a mission trip however maybe can't afford it.

Saying Goodbye to D.C.
Even though we totally wore ourselves out, it was so saddening to wake up and know that we had to leave D.C. We were also saddened that we were leaving today and it was starting the main events of Police Week and we would be missing it all. We got on the Metro and headed to the airport. Once we arrived at the airport, we were walking into the area to check in and we look out the glass windows and see......
A bunch of police officers lined up on their motorcycles and something else you can't see in this picture is a bunch of officers standing over to the left side. This literally brought a tear to my eyes. I was so saddened we were leaving Police Week behind.
Just as we un boarded the plane on the runway area when we arrived in D.C., we also boarded the plane going home on the runway area. It was very interesting to say the least because instead of being in an actual terminal area, it was kind of like we were in a basement area of the airport and we were bussed to our plane on the runway area.
Once we got on the plane, I pulled out the camera and faced it towards me and Trent. I laid my head over on him and closed my eyes. I told him to show me how he feels leaving D.C. and this is what I got.....
No, he was not faking that yawn. He was truly yawning. I would say D.C. absolutely wore us out. We really did have a great time though and hated to leave.
As we were taking off, I was told to put my camera away. I have only been told once before that I had to turn my camera off. I know you aren't supposed to have electronics on but I don't really understand the camera thing. Anyways, as we were taking off, I snuck a picture.
This picture is obviously the Pentagon but at the top right of the picture is also Arlington Cemetery. I wish I would have thought to get a picture of Arlington Cemetery and the Changing of the Guards area while taking off but I snuck the Pentagon picture as it was and was trying to hurry up.
Sadly enough, our trip ended here.
Instead of making another blog, I am going to put a couple of extra things about the trip at the end here. First of all, we liked all the different types of Police Officers there so we took several Police car pictures.
If we would have thought, we could have taken many more kinds but didn't.
The last thing I can really think to talk about is how great the motel was. We stayed at the Residence Inn by Marriott on Vermont Ave. We were about a 10 -15 minute walk from the White House and we were about 3 blocks away from 2 different Metro stations. Unfortunately, we normally like a nice city view from the room but we didn't have that at this motel but by no means would that make me rate it any differently. The biggest thing I can say is this is absolutely the quietest motel I have EVER stayed at. For the longest, we wondered if there was anyone else staying on the same floor as us. We later found out that the motel was totally booked at least 1 night that we were there. Finally on the 3rd day we were there, I heard life on the other side of the wall but the only thing I heard was when I was in the bathroom, I heard a shower going from another room. That was absolutely the ONLY thing I heard from anyone while we were there. Never the first time did we hear anyone roaming the halls, running or screaming. Another huge benefit that I had already mentioned was the CVS that was attached to the motel. That was very convenient. We used it several times while there. Every room does have a refrigerator, freezer, stove, and microwave. Something else they have that we didn't use is you can turn in a grocery list and the motel staff will go shopping for you and put it on a room bill for you. I thought that was pretty neat. If anyone goes to D.C., I would highly recommend this motel. It was wonderful and we totally enjoyed our trip and the comfort of our motel room.
Again, we will definitely return one day and this time, we will plan it specifically around Police Week so we can go to all of the events they have for Police Week. I loved D.C. and all of the history to it and Police Week will make it just that much greater. Next time we go, we want to take a night tour, see the Archives, Watergate, and see some of the Museums that we didn't actually get to go in.

Washington D.C. Day 4
This was another early morning. This was also our last day in D.C. so we knew that whatever we were wanting to see, we had to squeeze it in today. We got ready and headed to the Metro. As we were sitting there waiting on the subway to arrive, Trent tells me Happy Mother's Day. I really didn't know how to take that. I smiled though as I realize I am mommy to one big ol' furry baby at home. I love my Ol' Bully Baby. The subway arrived and we jumped on headed for our first destination of the day. The Law Enforcement Memorial. Let me back up a little and say that when we talked to Big Dqqky on the phone for the first time after we booked our trip, he informed us that Police Week was starting on the Saturday we were there and ending I think it was on Wednesday. We were sad we didn't know this before hand so that we could have actually planned our trip around Police Week because the main part of the events were starting on Monday which unfortunately was the day we were heading home. Anyways, it ended up being a great day to go to the memorial because we got to meet some more pretty important people to history that just happened recently. You will see that in a minute. Below are some pictures from the memorial.
After seeing Ford's Theatre and where Lincoln was shot, we went across the street to the Home where Lincoln died.
By the time we left the House where Lincoln died, the National Archives was closed. We were bummed because we really wanted to see it but again, hopefully we can see that when we return one day. Since the Archives was closed, we made our way to the Old Post Office Tower. In the Old Post Office Tower, you can go up in the top of it and see D.C. It was hard to get too many good pictures because there was bars on the windows which made it hard.
After this, there was nothing else that we could do that would have been open so we headed back to the motel to relax for a bit before going back out for supper. We sat in the motel room for a bit trying to decide whether to do a night tour of the Monuments and Memorials or not. It would have been just a little under $80 for the two of us to do the night time trolley tour. We really wanted to do it but decided not to. This will be something else that we will do when we return again. We spent half of the night trying to decide what to eat. It was so hard around D.C. for us to decide what to eat because we normally stay so busy on vacation, we really don't take the time to eat fancy. We finally at about 8:30pm found a 5 Guys Burgers that was supposed to be about 0.3 miles from the motel but we wasn't sure exactly where it was. We knew the vicinity that it was in but not exact so we set out walking. We got to the area in which we wasn't sure whether to turn right or left. We came across a homeless person that could obviously tell we didn't know where to go and he asked what we were looking for. We told him and he told us where to go. He then told us, "If you don't know where something is, just ask a bum. We know where things are better than the locals do" We thought that was pretty funny but he was exactly right in where to go. We ate and then went back to the motel. Trent packed up some of his stuff while I went ahead and laid down. We were bummed to be leaving D.C. the next morning. Vacation came and went entirely too quickly.
Lined all along the walls of this place is names engraved of fallen officers who died on the job. There is almost 20,000 names engraved of fallen officers. |

Me and Trent were so sad that we were in such a hurry for the day. This was seriously somewhere we could have stayed all day! We ended up staying here almost 2 hours and that was not in the plans at all since we were in such a hurry. We made our way to the Law Enforcement Memorial Visitor's shop and bought a couple of things and then made our way to our next touring destination.
We headed towards the Ford's Theatre and home where Lincoln died area. At this point, it was already about 11:45 and we needed to be heading towards Nationals Park for the game by 12 so the plans were to just take the time to look at the buildings for now and leave the game and head back to this area to actually tour the buildings.

We moved from Ford's Theatre and the House where Lincoln died to a little souvenir shop and then to the FBI Building.
Not far from the FBI Building was the National Archives.
We also passed by the United States Navy Memorial.
By the time we just looked at all these places, it was a little past 12 so time to make our way to the field as we were supposed to meet Billy at Nationals Park at 1. We got there about 15 minutes early so stopped right outside the gates to take a picture together.
We then called Billy to let him know we were waiting outside the gates. Few minutes later he walked up to us, gave us our tickets, we went through the gates and then he said to follow him. He then proceeds to tell us that he has reserved us a free lunch and walked us to where we were going. He took us to none other than the........
This not only meant that we were sitting behind home plate but we got free food and drinks all we wanted throughout the whole game. Not just any free food though. Before the game we were eating sirloin, tenderloin, mashed potatoes, pasta salad, broccoli and rice casserole, etc. And what would a ball park be without a good ol' hot dog. We were truly living the high life. We were both thinking, sure we didn't mind to get stuck in an elevator full of a bunch of grouches, burning up for 25 minutes to get free tickets behind home plate and all the free food and drinks we could have possibly wanted! Below is a picture of our seats
Since this was our last day and we really needed to see what we wanted to see today, we left the game at the end of the 6th inning so that we could go back to the Ford's Theatre area and actually tour the inside of the building before some of those sites closed.Inside Ford's Theatre |
