IUI # 3 = Could it be?

I honestly have not posted much about this procedure.  I normally blog when we are 1 week away from going to the doctor however it seems like time is just flying by and honestly, we have been trying to keep our mind off of all of it.  Apparently, keeping our mind off of it is working because I didn't even realize when we were a week away from going to the doctor.  On Thanksgiving day, I realized we were only 4 days away from going and I was in shock.  We couldn't believe it was already time to go back to the doctor and start all this over again.

We have never requested what vial we wanted to use, they have always just pulled a random vial and that is what we use however, going into today, we knew we wanted to request what vial to use.  For the last procedure, we only had to use 1 vial and we had 2 vials from the same date so we had 1 extra left from that specific date.  For the last procedure, we had better motile sperm counts than what we ever thought we would have since the first time was low so we knew we wanted to use the other vial from that same date.  When we got there today, we verified things, told them what vial we wanted to use and then would have to wait for an hour and a half for the thawing process.  About 50 minutes passed and they called us back.

Anyways, we get back in the room and Kristin sits the chart down on the counter so we could verify everything was correct and verify it was the correct "Donor name" on the vial.  Well, everything was correct and then I got a glimpse of the chart and saw the best news possible.  Now if you will remember, they like to see 10 million motile sperm and for IUI #1, we used 2 vials and had 2.8 million motile sperm.  IUI #2, we used 1 vial and had 8.3 million motile sperm and we were tickled to death to know our numbers were so much better for that round.  Well, today, when I caught a glimpse of the chart, I see 11.9 million motile sperm in 1 vial.  We were absolutly beside ourselves and ecstatic that our numbers were above 10 million.  We had 3.6 million more motile sperm this time than last time and 9.1 million more this time than IUI #1.  Whoa, this was wonderful news!!!  She left the room, we said a prayer and then I got changed.  She came in, done procedure and it was done in no time.

We now have 3 vials left 1 of which has low numbers and will most likely be like the first 2 vials and 2 of which may have decent numbers but will most likely be less than 10 million post thaw.  We are figuring that we would have 2 tries left but we are praying that we don't need those 2 extra tries.

In waiting room waiting to be called back for IUI #3
Right after IUI #3.  These pictures like these will always be so precious
to me.  Especially the one that it actually happened after.
They have told us to test on December 13th so hopefully God will Bless us with such a wonderful Christmas Miracle of being pregnant with a sweet little bundle of joy.  It being so close to Christmas, I don't know if we will post right away with the results because if we are, we may want to make our announcement a little more special than on the blog.

Anyways, just wanted to update everyone and let everyone know how it went.  We are very excited about IUI #3 as everything went very smoothly and our numbers were great but we will try again not to think much about it until testing time so we hopefully don't get our hopes up.  That is very difficulty though saying everything went so well.

Do you mind telling me where you have been going for your IUI appointments? Andrew and I are starting to weigh our options.

We use Nashville Fertility Center at Centennial Hospital in Nashville. Coming off of Charlotte Ave, you will turn on 23rd Ave and it is the first parking garage on the left. Get on elevator and go up to the 3rd floor then you are at a walkway that goes accross to the building you need to be at or you can just park at the top of the parking garage and you will be right there at the walkway (that is what we normally do). Once you walk accross the walkway, get on the elevators straight ahead of you and go to the 4th floor. The fertility center is straight ahead to your right.

They have 4 or 5 doctors but we use Dr. Hill. When we called and scheduled our first appointment, they had told us that Dr. Hill deals the most with male infertility and he is the medical director of the facility. We have talked to people since that have used different doctors than us and I have always heard good things. I have heard dr Weitzman (sp) is good too.

We like the facility and have never had any true problems with anyone. The route we are taking is "Known Donor" so it is different and I am sure it is not seen very often so in the beginning, one of the nurses was giving us conflicting information with what the doctor had already told us. I simply told her to talk to the doctor and see who's information was right mine or hers and she did and called back quickly to let me know she was wrong. I had a couple of cases like this with the same nurse but again I just think it is because what we are doing is not done often so she probably just got confused. I have only had problems out of the 1 nurse, all others have been wonderful and no communication issues at all. It is rather funny because the nurse we was getting bad information from was actually Lisa which done our first 2 IUI's and we now love her even though we had communication issues with her in the past.

I know it probably sounds crazy but the best thing I have done is kept a huge folder of all of our information. That way if there ever is any conflict anywhere, we have everything in our folder to look back to. I have not had to use it for conflicting situations but it has all of our donors information, vial information, reciepts, results, IUI papers, calender, everything in it so that we have it if needed and it has been very useful during the whole journey.

I have heard that Nashville Fertility Center has some of the best success rates around with InVitro too.

Good luck with wieghing your options, I know it is a very difficult and stressful decision to make. Once we decided we were going to use "Known Donor", we took a couple months to really pray about it and make sure it was the right decision. Try not to let people get to you whatever decision you decide on. Most everyone and especially family was very supportive of our decision however, we have heard it all and everyone has an opinion especially since our route is so different than normal. As long as you know in your heart that you are doing what is right for you and your family, ignore everyone. You and your husband is what matters and if you have prayed about it, you can't go wrong.

Sorry this response has been so lengthy but just wanted to try and give you as much information as possible. As I know how stressfull everything can be.

Ha after that lengthy response you are probably thinking I am crazy but I meant to tell you, if you ever have any questions or anything, feel free to ask.

Thank you for the info. I'm pretty sure Andrew and I are going to use his own sperm and do iui. First we are working on his genetic testing to see if he has cf. that test is in two weeks. We will start moving forward with baby planing after the results come in.

Good luck with this try!

Just a heads up. We wanted to do that but we were told that the sperm would not be good enough quality or quantity (not sure which one it was or maybe both) to do IUI. They had told us that with congenital abscence of the vas, you pretty much have to do InVitro with ICSI. The ICSI technique involves the direct injection of a single live sperm into the center of a mature egg. And If I am remembering right, it was going to cost anywhere from $4,000 - $6,000 just to extract the sperm and they didn't know if insurance would pay or not. They can't do that at the fertility center and they send you to a Urologist there in Nashville. So the sperm extraction fee is added to the actual InVitro fee. By what it sounded like, it would be $15,000 - $20,000+ (closer to the $20,000 by the time everything added up) for a single round of InVitro.

Good Luck with the CF test and the baby planning. Hopefully everything will work out just perfect for ya'll. Have ya'll been to a fertility doctor at all?

Thanks for the Good Luck! We need much of it.
